Historical Background - This building was erected in 1919 according to a building permit issued to C.T. Ahlstrand for a one-story brick office building with concrete foundation. The building housed offices for many years. From 1923 to 1930 a real estate office functioned here. The D.C. Royer Agency moved into this building in January 1939. The business was started in Greeley in January 1913 by Daniel C. Royer and added branches in Northglenn, Longmont, and Fort Collins. The Royer Agency was also the operating manager for the Commercial Mutual Insurance Company and the Weld County Farmers’ Protective Association. Royer’s was also the general agent for the state of Colorado for Miller’s Mutual Insurance Association of Altoona, Illinois, and the Iowa Mutual Insurance Company of DeWitt, Iowa. It was also an independent local agent for fourteen other insurance firms. In 1977 the firm announced plans to move to 814-816 9th Street due to overcrowding of this office, which had thirty-eight employees. The building was then owned by the Commercial Mutual Insurance Company.
