Historical Background -
The 1909 Sanborn map indicates that a theater was then occupying this lot. The theater was indicated as having an “air dome, no roof” on the map. M.W. Frances applied for a building permit for a building with concrete foundation at this address in 1912. In 1917, Baab & Sons, Grocer, occupied this building. Baab Brothers, Grocer, was operating at 806 9th Street a few years later. In 1920-1922 Boyd’s Market occupied the first floor of this building, while rooms were offered upstairs. A market continued to be housed here through at least 1935, and a beauty shop operated upstairs in 1922-1926. From 1940 through at least 1960, Behrman’s Style Shop was located on the first story and Attorney Robert Behrman had offices upstairs. The 1970 city directory listed Jeweleen’s Fashion House in the upstairs space. The building was extensively remodeled in 1983 by John Anderson, a Greeley builder and businessman. The building was known as Langtry’s at that date.
