Description - One-story, rectangular, brick commercial building with flat roof with cornice of molded brick. Wall of plain painted brick below cornice; red brick west wall. Plain brick beneath cornice. Glazed brown brick piers enframe building. Inset entrance has wood frame door with large rectangular light and transom (which now holds fan). Plate glass windows flank entrance and have red and brown brick kickplates. Clerestory windows covered with painted plywood. Projecting hood and fabric awning shelters display windows. Rear wall is painted concrete block with double flush panel doors.

Historical Background - This building was erected in 1928 according to Weld County Assessor records. In that year, the city directory indicated that the building housed an electrical store. By 1930 a shoe store was operating here. A photograph in John Dugan’s Greeley and Weld County shows this building in 1932 as the location of the Helpy-Selfy Grocery Store. Dugan notes that “Greeley had its own self-service store before the modern trend became the norm.” By 1944 the building housed a Gamble store. A Coast-to-Coast store was operating here by 1950 and was also listed at this address in 1960.
